Is it true, that the mayflower Compact was also part of the basis to form our constitutional government?

-meaning both jonestown and the pilgrims had parts in forming our government even before george washington was born?

source: Dave Barton American Heritage series.History classes generally declare that the Mayflower Compact was one of the source documents used by the founding fathers to give form to the Constitution. They also had knowledge of the English Magna Carta. Originally, the colonists wanted simply to form an agreement with the Crown to allow the colonists a measure of self rule. They wanted more say into their own affairs. King George III was not open to the colonists suggestions. As a result, the colonists had to take drastic measures to accomplish their goal of self-government. The original Articles of Confederation gave too much autonomy to the states and not enough central authority over matters of mutual concern. Thus, the Constitution was born to solve the problems discovered in the previous attempts. A central government working with the combined efforts of sovereign states and yet preserving individual rights.

The Mayflower Compact was but one of the source documents that led to the Constitution.
