Why is english universal language.. when china and India are most populated countires in the world?

-There are numerous reasons, as considered in the book listed below, but essentially, English is increasingly seen as a neutral medium in commerce ... knowledge of it is very widespread around the world, owing to historical factors, and that makes it useful. By contrast, India has many regional languages, making use of any one of these somewhat politically sensitive. Chinese is wedded to a difficult writing system and itself has a few regional "dialects", equivalent to languages in themselvesThere are numerous reasons, as considered in the book listed below, but essentially, English is increasingly seen as a neutral medium in commerce ... knowledge of it is very widespread around the world, owing to historical factors, and that makes it useful. By contrast, India has many regional languages, making use of any one of these somewhat politically sensitive. Chinese is wedded to a difficult writing system and itself has a few regional "dialects", equivalent to languages in themselvesTwo good reasons:

1. More people speak English. While China and India have more people, this just means they have more native English speakers. Only about 300-400 million people speak English as their first language, but about 1.4billion know it as a second language meaning about 1.8 billion people speak English worldwide.

2. The most powerful economies in the world generally speak English. Now that China and India are growing as economic powers, it is likely that more people will begin to learn their languages to help trade and diplomatic relations. At the same time, more Chinese and Indian people will learn English though as Education becomes more widespread and accessible.
While there are many people living in those countries, the language is restricted to that country because not many other countries consider Chinese or Indian a native tongue. English, and french, are used as a native language in many countries, so is therefore considered universal, as it's used around the world.
English is more widespread. Not in the number of people who speak it, but rather by the number of countries in which it is an official language, and often the main official language.
because they have been isolationist countries

rather than English speaking countries who have traveled the world

and needed to speak for commerce - travel - etc

all the best
they are 3rd world countries, while most western, english speaking are highly developed countries
notwitstanding lesser population., english had been/is/will be the link for the entire earth and hence
Because English speaking nations have been the most influential around the world.
